Presented by BOP Film & Baycourt Presents:

We are back again this year with our Young Filmmakers Workshop in preparation for the 2018 NZ Nationals of the International Youth Silent Film Festival.

This Workshop will take you from the beginning of the film making process right to the end… you will collaborate through job sharing processes and together you will make a silent film, which will set you up to create your own film to enter the IYSFF Nationals 2018.

The tutors for the three day workshops are Bay of Plenty Film CEO Anton Steel, who has worked as a Director, 1st Assistant Director and Producer for over 20 years, plus specialist tutors Andrew Taylor, Jannine Bishop, Tanya Horo, Tessa Blackett, and Annie Lawler, who will tutor in their specialist fields - direction, camera operating, art direction, acting, editing and a make-up/special effects demonstration.

Day one on Tuesday, 17 July 9am – 4pm

Writing and prepping the first draft of your silent film:
- An interactive day on scriptwriting and prep. Shaping your own script to the IYSFF musical tracks and a classic 3 act film structure.
- Casting, rehearsing actors, sourcing props and planning your shoot. The tutors will run through the preparations for the silent film in which the students will work on the following day.

Day two on Wednesday, 18 July 9am – 4pm

Learning on the job – Shooting a short film:
- Shooting the film. The students will be guided by the tutors and shoot the silent film taking turns in directing, shoot shots and in the art department as well as possible featuring in the film

Day three on Thursday, 19 July 9am – 4pm

Editing – Putting the jigsaw puzzle together:
- There are 3 films you make. The film you write, the film you shoot and the film you edit. You will learn to edit the film alongside an experienced professional editor and at the end of the day we will hold a screening of the film for family, friends and whanau.
