Presented by: Baycourt Presents
Baycourt Community and Arts Centre are proud to take part in the International Youth Silent Film Festival. Baycourt will host the NZ Regional competition awards ceremony on Wednesday 17 October 2018.
IYSFF is an initiative for students aged 20 years and under to create a three-minute silent film - set to a musical score the filmmakers choose from a list of ten original compositions composed for the festival.
IYSFF was founded in 2009 by Jon (JP) Palanuk, where young people can explore the art of filmmaking, as well as gain a new appreciation for the theatre organ and silent film.
Screenings of the top films from around New Zealand will be held at Baycourt at a red carpet gala event with New York’s Nathan Avakian, the festival’s composer playing the Wurlitzer live.
At the ceremony the prize winners will be announced and the three winning films will compete in the IYSFF Global Awards to be held in Portland, Oregon, USA in 2019.
This year Otago brothers Benaiah and Thomas Dunn became the first Kiwi filmmakers to take higher honours in the international competition after their film The Chase placed second overall at the IYSFF Global Awards 2018.
