In 1970 Harvey and Jeannette Crewe were killed at their farm in Pukekawa and several decades later this case remains as New Zealand’s most infamous cold case. It spawned two trials, two appeals, several books, a film (Beyond Reasonable Doubt), and eventually a Royal Commission finding of police corruption.
It also resulted in a pardon, the only time a New Zealand government has bypassed the courts to set a convicted murderer free. And still, the Crewes’ murderer has not been found.
Jared Savage speaks with award-winning investigative journalist Kirsty Johnston and Associate Professor of Journalism James Hollings and digs deep into the findings within their meticulously researched book, providing a fresh perspective on one of Aotearoa’s most chilling and mystifying murders.
