Get ready for a morning by the water at Tauranga Kids Gone Fishin’ Day a fun, family-friendly community event designed to get kids outdoors, learning new skills, and enjoying the simple thrill of fishing.
Hosted by Tauranga Blue Light, this free event invites families from across the community to come together for a relaxed and exciting day at the beautiful Tauranga Bridge Marina with the local community and local police officers. Whether your child is a first-time fisher or already loves casting a line, this event is all about giving young people the chance to try something new, build confidence, and make great memories.
From 10am to 12pm on Sunday 8 March 2026, kids will have the opportunity to fish right from the marina in a safe and welcoming environment, surrounded by other families. It’s the perfect introduction to fishing, encouraging patience, focus, and a connection with others while having plenty of fun.
There’s more than just fishing to enjoy. Throughout the morning, families can take part in spot prize draws, giving kids the chance to win exciting surprises just for being part of the day. A free sausage sizzle will also be running, making sure no one goes hungry while they enjoy the action. With plenty happening and a lively community atmosphere, it’s an event the whole family can enjoy together.
Families are encouraged to bring their own fishing rods and bait if they have them, but don’t worry if you don’t, a limited number of bait and hand reels will be available free on the day. The focus is on participation, fun, and connecting with the community.
Registration is simple and takes place on the day from 10am, making it easy for families to drop in and be part of the event. There’s no cost to attend, thanks to the generous support of sponsors and the dedication of Tauranga Blue Light in creating positive opportunities for young people in the community.
